Lavington is a town located on the Hume Highway, north of the Murray River, at the border of New South Wales and Victoria. Lavington amalgamated with Albury City in 1962 and contributes approximately one quarter of Albury's population.

In 1998, a group of Lavington citizens decided it was time to form a local family history group. There was a well-established Family History Society in Wodonga, Victoria, over the Murray River, 15 Kms from Lavington, however, most of the interested people felt the need to have a society closer to 'home.'

About 25 people attended the first meeting and it was from there that we proceeded.

Our meetings include guest speakers, workshops and presentations...all aimed at assisting the members with their efforts. We are constantly resourcing material, available to be personally researched on application to the secretary.

  • The Lavington & District Family History Society Inc, can guide and assist you in your research.

  • We can show you how to find the information you need to build your Family Tree.

  • We can direct you on how to access online, Births, Deaths and Marriage registers and (how to) use them efficiently to find the information required.

  • We can assist you in searching for Convict Records, Immigration Records and War Service Records.

  • We can guide you through the pitfalls of how wrong information can lead to errors in the building of your tree.

Don't be disheartened about not being able to find what you seek, it all takes time! There is information out there and there are people who are willing to help.
